Description
ABOUT THE HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHS
Buildings are bigger and sidewalks duller in the new photo - we're looking along summer Street at its fork with Federal. The sleek cars date the old scene to the late 19505. "Everywhere, giant finned cars nose'forward like fish," lamented the poet Robert Lowell in his 1960 classic, "For the Union Dead.» Changes in size are dramatic.
The' 50s photo is dominated by a tall, wide, confident building that wears a National Shawmut Bank billboard like a sailor'...
