"We’re looking at Bowdoin Square, near Beacon Hill, with Cambridge Street angling at left toward the
Charles River. The old photo (about 1900) shows the big double Blake-Tuckerman house, built in 1815 by Samuel Parkman, a wealthy merchant, for two of his daughters and their husbands. The architect was Charles Bulfinch, designer of the State House, and the mansion is typical of his crisp, understated, elegant Federal style, modeled on the work of the Scot...
