Description
Up and Down consists of a coliseum-like building that buttresses a leaning tower. This tower commemorates all of Arlington’s razed buildings and was inspired by Arlington’s original courthouse which was demolished in 1977. Caldwell also looked to Washington, DC’s historic façades that are sometimes salvaged and propped up like vulnerable skins in front of new construction.
