Paul Broches studied architecture at The Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation with Romaldo (Aldo) Giurgola, Faculty Chair and co-founder of the Mitchell Giurgola firm. Paul joined Mitchell Giurgola in 1971, became a partner in 1980, and Partner Emeritus in 2022. Paul was a member of the team that designed the House of Parliament in Canberra, Australia. He also had the rare privilege of leading the team that executed the last project designed by Louis Kahn, the FDR Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island in New York City. His work at the firm includes projects for the Brooklyn and New York Public Libraries, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Rockefeller University Collaborative Research Center, City University of New York, NYU, and NYC public schools.
Paul is a Fellow in the AIA and member of the Board of the International Architects Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility. He also serves as a critic on the international Berkeley Prize for Architecture Design Excellence and Columbia University’s annual GSAPP Goodman Fellowship Jury. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 2013 and to the Board in 2018.
