Matthias Hollenstein, founder of Studio Hollenstein, was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1984. He graduated from the University of New South Wales in Sydney in 2009. Matthias established his practice in Sydney in 2013 after winning the international competition for the Green Square Library and Plaza. He has taught at the University of New South Wales and the University of Technology Sydney, and delivered lectures both in Australia and abroad.
His notable achievements include receiving numerous local and international awards. In 2019, he was honored with the global AR Library Award, The Chicago Atheneum Architecture Award, The Sir Zelman Cowen Award, the NSW Premier's Prize, and multiple AIA awards for architecture, urban design, and interior architecture.
In 2020, he was presented with the NSW Emerging Architect Prize in recognition of his significant contributions to the architectural profession and the advancement of architecture within the public domain. In 2021, architect Dominique Perrault invited him to exhibit at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.
Matthias's work has been extensively published both nationally and internationally, including features in publications such as "MMXX: Two Decades of Architecture in Australia" and the "Archdaily Guide to Good Architecture."
