John Friedman is an architect and co-founder of John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK). He was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Master of Architecture from Harvard University, and a Master of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, where he was California’s Newton Tatum Scholar.
Before co-founding JFAK in 1996, Friedman worked for various architectural design firms in the US and abroad, including the office of Pritzker Laureate Alvaro Siza in Porto, Portugal, and Skidmore Owings and Merrill in San Francisco. He has taught design studios at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and the University of Southern California (USC), where he and Alice Kimm were the Spring 2006 Jon Jerde Visiting Professors in Architecture.
Friedman was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) in 2007 and has served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
