William joined the NYC DOB in September 2015 after 27 years in private practice and one year abroad as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in the Republic of Slovenia. He currently works in the DOB Technical Affairs Unit interpreting code and zoning determinations, as well as working on a myriad of special assignment. He previously managed 44-person and 24-person units of Plan Examiners, Project Advocates, Fee Estimators and Program Auditors in Brooklyn and the Bronx, respectively. The task of a Plan Examination Unit is Zoning Regulation, Building Code and NYS Multiple Dwelling Law compliance—a significant role in the Department’s mission of Compliant Development. William’s other major tasks have facilitating customers in the application review process to achieve approval and teaching within the Agency.He holds a Master of Architecture from North Carolina State University and a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His Bachelor of Arts in History and in English is from Duke University. During his Senior Fulbright Fellowship, he studied the tradition of the Ljubljana University Faculty of Architecture established by Joze Plecnik and further enhanced by Edvard Ravnikar. He is currently licensed in NJ and NY. Haught for 13 years as an Adjunct Associate Professor at NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate and is, and has been, active in numerous AIA committees.
