The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) supports and funds non-profit cultural organizations across the city's five boroughs, including those in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Originally established as the Office of Cultural Affairs in 1962 under Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr., it became a separate city agency in 1976. The department is led by the Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, appointed by the Mayor, and plays a key role in promoting NYC’s cultural life.
