The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Dow Jones, or simply the Dow, is a stock market index of 30 prominent companies listed on stock exchanges in the United States. The DJIA is one of the oldest and most commonly followed equity indexes.

Established, 1882

1st index to measure the activity of the N.Y.S.E. was designed by Dow Jones & Company.

Published, May 26, 1896

Charles Dow published the first edition of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

1953 -The Wall Street Journal ceased publication of its Saturday edition by Dow Jones & Co. after the NYSE ended Saturday trading, a practice that began with the publication's inception in 1889.
