Kerstin Thompson is the founding Principal of Kerstin Thompson Architects (KTA) established in Melbourne, 1994.An accomplished speaker and committed design educator, Kerstin is an Adjunct Professor at RMIT and Monash University and regularly lectures and runs studios at various schools across Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.
She plays an active role promoting quality design within the profession and the wider community through talks, participation in government design review panels and as a regular juror on industry award panels.
In recognition for the work of her practice, contribution to the profession and tertiary education, Kerstin was elevated to Life Fellow by the Australian Institute of Architects in 2017, appointed the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2022 and awarded the Gold Medal in 2023 - the Australian Institute of Architects’ highest honour - recognising distinguished services by architects.
Amongst a deliberately diverse portfolio notable projects include the Bundanon Art Museum & Bridge which received 2022’s Sir Zelman Cowen Award - Australia’s highest accolade for public architecture, the Broadmeadows Town Hall - a multi-awarded exemplar of renewal and reuse of existing civic spaces and the soon to be opened Melbourne Holocaust Museum.
