George Taylor was an Irish immigrant who worked as an Ironmaster in Pennsylvania, focusing on iron production throughout his life. Though not politically inclined, he served when called upon, and was elected to the provincial assembly in 1764, where he remained for five consecutive years. Taylor was appointed to Congress in 1775, replacing a member who refused to support Independence. Though he arrived too late to vote, he did sign the Declaration of Independence. He served Congress until 1777, then served for only six weeks on the Supreme Council of his state, apparently due to illness. No record record of any public service has ever been found.
