Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. was the 38th President of the United States, serving from 1974 to 1977. Ford was a member of the Republican Party and served as the Vice President under President Richard Nixon from 1973 to 1974. He became President after Nixon resigned due to the Watergate scandal. Ford is the only person to have served as both Vice President and President of the United States without being elected to either office. During his presidency, Ford is known for his efforts to restore public trust in the government following the Watergate scandal. He also signed the Helsinki Accords, which were aimed at improving relations between the Western and Eastern blocs during the Cold War.
