 William James Hall is a 15-story building on the campus of Harvard University designed by Minoru Yamasaki in 1963. The building is named in honor of William James, who was instrumental in establishing the Harvard Psychology department. William James Hall houses the Psychology, Sociology, and Social Studies departments.

The original World Trade Center (WTC) was a large complex of seven buildings in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed during the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.&nbsp;

World Trade Center (WTC)

The first design for one of the largest public housing projects in the country by the then young architect, Minoru Yamasaki had many of the bells and whistles of modern design. &nbsp;It also cost considerably more than the federal government wanted to pay. &nbsp;So significant value engineering ensued; the buildings were redesigned. &nbsp;They became identical slabs and construction materials were downgraded. &nbsp;They were designed to be skip-stop where the elevators stopped every third floor and residents had to walk up or down a level to access their small apartments. &nbsp;Widely praised at its completion, it didn't take long for its multiple problems to appear which included poor maintenance and on a larger urban scale the racial tensions of big cities during the sixties.&nbsp;

The tenants moved out and demolition started with the first three buildings in 1972. &nbsp;It finished three years later at a cost of $3.5 million. &nbsp;

Considered by many to be iconic of the failures of modern architecture, the destruction of Pruit Igoe remains as Charles Jencks termed it ‘the day Modern Architecture died’.

5 World Trade Center was originally a nine-story office building built. The steel-framed structure was 118 feet tall with a black exterior. &nbsp;The building featured an L-shaped design, housing a police desk and a major Borders bookstore. Notably, artist Joanna Gilman Hyde created a large rooftop mural in 1984.

Floors 4–9 suffered partial collapse and/or fire damage, while Floors 1–3 were not damaged during the September 11 attacks. The building was demolished in December later that year.

A new design has been announced for the new 5 World Trade Center to be developed by Silverstein Properties and Brookfield Properties. The new design calls for a 1,560,000 sf mixed-use 910-foot-tall &nbsp;tower.

5 World Trade Center

An American architect, best known for designing the original World Trade Center in NYC. During his three-decade career, he and his firm designed over 250 buildings. He and fellow architect Edward Durell Stone are generally considered to be the two master practitioners of “New Formalism” architecture style.
