Giuseppe Piccirilli, a skilled stone carver from Rome, brought his family to New York City in 1888, where they established a renowned workshop in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. His six sons, all trained as marble cutters and carvers, continued the family tradition, becoming known for their expertise in translating sculptors' clay models into stone masterpieces. They collaborated with prominent American sculptors like Daniel Chester French and Paul Wayland Bartlett, cementing their reputation as premier architectural modelers and sculptors in their own right.
