Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. Nixon was a member of the Republican Party and served as Vice President under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. He ran for President in 1960 but lost to John F. Kennedy. Nixon was elected President in 1968 and re-elected in 1972. During his presidency, Nixon is known for his efforts to improve relations with China and the Soviet Union, as well as for his policies on the environment and civil rights. However, his presidency was also marked by the Watergate scandal, which led to his resignation in 1974.
