The life-sized statue of Abraham Lincoln outside the New-York Historical Society was installed as part of the museum's $65 million renovation. Sculptors at StudioEIS in Brooklyn, led by co-founder Ivan Schwartz, undertook the ambitious task of recreating the lost monument. Using surviving fragments, historical records, portraits of George III, and the ancient Roman equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius—which had inspired the original sculptor, Joseph Wilton—the team combined traditional craftsmanship with digital modeling and 3D printing technology.&nbsp;

The completed replica became the centerpiece of an exhibit at the Museum of the American Revolution, where the eight-foot-tall gilded king stands atop an eight-foot marble pedestal. Beside him is the figure of a sailor poised to throw a rope to the crowd, recreating the dramatic moment before the statue's destruction.&nbsp;

The original equestrian statue of King George III arrived in New York from London in 1770. Cast from a mixture of lead, tin, copper, and antimony, the gilded monument stood prominently in Bowling Green as a symbol of British authority. After it was toppled by patriots in 1776 and largely melted down for musket balls, only a handful of fragments survived, leaving historians to imagine its appearance for more than two centuries.
