A Newspaper established by women's rights activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in NYC was titled The Revolution. It was published weekly between January 8, 1868 and February 17, 1872. With a combative style that matched its name, it primarily focused on women's rights, especially prohibiting discrimination against women voting, women's suffrage. It also covered other topics, however, such as politics, the labor movement and finance. Anthony managed the business aspects of the paper while Stanton was co-editor along with Parker Pillsbury, an abolitionist and a supporter of women's rights.Initial funding was provided by George Francis Train, a controversial businessman who supported women's rights but alienated many activists with his views on politics and race. The funding that he arranged was enough to start the newspaper but not enough to sustain it. After twenty-nine months, mounting debts forced Anthony to transfer the paper to Laura Curtis Bullard, a wealthy women's rights activist who gave it a less radical tone. The paper published its last issue less than two years later.

The National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) was formed on May 15, 1869 to work for women's suffrage in the United States. Its main leaders were Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. It was created after the women's rights movement split over the proposed Fifteenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which would in effect extend voting rights to black men. One wing of the movement supported the amendment while the other, the wing that formed the NWSA, opposed it, insisting that voting rights be extended to all women and all African Americans at the same time.

National women’s suffrage

The Working Women's Association (WWA) was formed in New York City on September 17, 1868 in the offices of The Revolution, a women's rights newspaper established earlier that year by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. Its stated purpose was to create "an association of working-women which might act for the interests of its members, in the same manner as the associations of workingmen now regulate the wages, etc., of those belonging to them." Shortly afterwards Anthony was seated as a delegate of the WWA at the annual congress of the National Labor Union (NLU), the first national labor federation in the U.S.The WWA's membership grew to include over a hundred wage-earning women in addition to journalists and other women whose work was more intellectual than manual.

The Working Women's Association founded

According to reports, each day, Stanton walked up and down the steps from her office to the printer at 37 Park Row, carrying articles for the weekly publication.  Consisting of bronze figures of Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the Women`s Rights Pioneers Monument commemorates the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Sponsored by the group Monumental Women and unveiled in August 2020, the monument is the first to be added to Central Park since 1965, the first since the Park became a landmark, and the first in the Park to depict actual women.

On July 4, 1876, five members of the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) staged a dramatic protest during the U.S. Centennial Celebration at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Led by Susan B. Anthony, the women bypassed ceremony officials and presented their Declaration of the Rights of the Women of the United States to Vice President Thomas W. Ferry before reading it aloud to the assembled crowd.Co-written by Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Matilda Joslyn Gage, the declaration was modeled on the Declaration of Independence and argued that women, like the American colonies a century earlier, had been denied fundamental rights and equal representation. Declaring women to be "free and independent citizens" entitled to equal political power, the protest became one of the defining moments of the Centennial celebration and helped inspire the movement that ultimately led to the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution

The Seneca Falls Convention in New York kicked off the organized women's rights movement.

Suffragists hold a massive march in Washington, D.C. to demand change.

Congress passes the 19th Amendment.

Tennessee becomes the 36th state to ratify the amendment, making it official law.

The 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, prohibited denying the right to vote on the basis of sex. However, it did not guarantee voting access for all women: Jim Crow laws, racial discrimination, and other barriers continued to disenfranchise many Black women, Native American women, and Asian American women. The broader struggle for universal voting rights continued for decades after 1920.

Women's Right to vote ratified

An American social reformer and women's rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17. In 1856, she became the New York state agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society.
