Truly memorable buildings exploit the tension between the sensual and the intellectual, strive for the balance of the poetic and pragmatic, and search for elusive qualities—both timely and timeless. Through architecture, our goal is to create original inventions that are simultaneously simple and complex. We pursue concepts that engage the communities they inhabit, and complement and reinterpret the natural, historic, and cultural context. We are fascinated by the integrity and power of a material’s rawness and presence. We are intensely interested in the craft of making and the presence of the void, where two dissimilar materials meet in space. With this in mind, we weave and assemble materials in familiar and surprising ways to create juxtapositions between the rough and the refined. We are excited by how light is manipulated and molded to capture the unique and sensual qualities of a particular place.
