The Hudson River is a significant waterway in the eastern United States, running through New York State and forming part of the border between New York and New Jersey. It stretches approximately 315 miles (507 km) from its source at Lake Tear of the Clouds in the Adirondack Mountains to New York Harbor, where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Named after the English explorer Henry Hudson, who navigated it in 1609, the river has played a crucial role in the region’s history, ecology, and economy. The lower portion of the Hudson is an estuary, supporting diverse ecosystems and serving as an important resource for transportation and recreation.
