Lincoln's funeral cortege passes Broadway, NY April 25, 1865
A three-week series of events mourned his death and memorialized his life
His remains left Washington, D.C., on April 21 at 12:30 pm and traveled 1,654 miles (2,662 km) to the final stop at Springfield, arriving on May 3
The train which held his remains, largely retraced the route Lincoln had traveled to Washington as the president-elect on his way to his first inauguration, more than four years earlier
Lincoln lay in the New York City Hall from April 24, 1865 1:00 p.m. to April 25, 1865 11:40 a.m
It was in the rotunda of New York City Hall where the only known photo of Abraham Lincoln in death was taken.
