Project Place is a non-profit agency that serves men and women experiencing homelessness by offering job training, work experience, education, housing and support services.
Sitting on the historic site of Boston's original city gate, this new neighborhood landmark is a symbolic gateway for building residents. A glassy corner stair tower marks this important corner as a gatepost, illuminated at night. Building facades express the various functions within the building--a double height window at the second floor revealing the agency's main gathering space and a projecting bay on the top floor highlighting the common lounge for building residents. Two colors of masonry recall the adjacent historic townhouses, and the precise detailing of masonry with metal panels, windows,
curtain wall, and louvers creates a distinctly modern expression in this historic district.
