1 West 67th St. (Hotel des Artistes) Built in 1915 as a “Cooperative” it was designed by the esteemed architect George M. Pollard. Its outstanding lavish Neo-Gothic style is celebrated by its display of decorative statuary and gargoyles on its façade representing the arts. It has ten floors and approximately 85 units with several penthouse apartments. Originally the front apartments facing West 67th Street were built as residences, where as the rear apartments (with enormous windows allowing in the favorable Northern light) were built as artist`s lofts, as time went by these lofts were converted to palatial apartments.
