Chelsea Piers

Chelsea Piers is a 1.7 million square foot sports and recreation complex located between 17th and 23rd Streets on Piers 59 to 62. ORIGINAL PIERS 1910 WARREN & WETMORE Titanic was schedule to land here at pier 59. Such long liners needed longer piers, but ACo'Engineers had set the pier line extent. The city then condemned 13th Ave and subtracted landfill (eastward) to attain pier length which explains the sharp curve on the highway driving south. Pier 54's metal arch remains as artifact at West 13th Street.
