This abstract steel sculpture is composed of three interlocking geometric pieces, which suggest an eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle motif carries patriotic connotations relating to America`s bicentennial celebrations. Additionally, the tripod shape references the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle, which successfully landed on the moon in 1969. Eagle II was donated to the City in 1981 by a group of Austin citizens and installed on the plaza of the newly built main library.
