The Hive is an inverted cityscape chandelier. Berlin artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset are known for their installations, where they create sculptures that are witty commentaries on art and architecture. They probably became most famous in America for their much-photographed 2005 Prada Boutique installation. The store carefully follows Prada's design guidelines and looks as though it might be open for business. Except, of course, very few potential customers are to be found driving down Highway 90 in the desert outside of Marfa, Texas. They went on to create works for the Venice Biennale and the Serpentine Gallery in London. For Moynahan station, they crafted a ceiling's worth of skyscraper models illuminated by LED lights at the 31st entrance to the station that was a 1:100 scaled architectural model that offerest a surreal fantastical vision of a global metropolis. This fictional city combines landmarks from Chicago, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, and Paris as well as New York Coty silhouettes.
