The Mount Pitt Circus opens

The Mount Pitt Circus opened as a spacious wooden circus structure with a brick front—"one of the largest places of amusement in America". It was built and managed by Charles Sandford, later General Sandford: a New York socialite, railroad lawyer, and land speculator, who wanted to breathe some life into a new neighborhood he was developing.

Closed after a N.Y. law "imposing a tax on theatres and circuses" is voted. It was later destroyed by fire in August 1829
