High above the floor of Terminal One's busy ticketing hall, adjacent to the glass wall defining the central second floor concourse, floats "Impulse", a monumental suspended eight-part sculptural suite.
The sequence is oriented east to west, the easternmost section illustrating birds on (implied) wires, surrounded by companions beginning to fly. As the series moves west the birds begin to flock, eventually arranging themselves into an epic goose, which in turn gradually transforms into a grand image of the classic DC-3 aircraft.
The small components depict several dozen species of birds. Most of them are airborne, all are distinct, and all come together to render eight related macrocosmic forms addressing the impulse toward flight.
At once airy and coherent, visually permeable and optically legible, the artwork combines visual delicacy with exceptional material strength and resiliency.
