The Resnick Sustainability Center at Caltech, designed by Yazdani Studio of CannonDesign, is a facility for addressing critical climate and sustainability challenges. Located on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California, the 80,000-square-foot center opened in 2024.The center will serve as a dynamic hub for research, education, and societal impact, featuring a variety of sustainable materials and design elements. The building's envelope is designed as an undulating glass scrim with fritted low-E glazing and integral shading fins to minimize glare and optimize energy performance.Inside, the center houses interactive learning classrooms, workshops, collaboration spaces, undergraduate teaching labs, and research labs. It focuses on solar science and catalysis, remote sensing, and interdisciplinary research on how diverse lifeforms interact with their environments. The Resnick Sustainability Center is made possible by a $750 million pledge from philanthropists Lynda and Stewart Resnick, owners of the Wonderful Company, making it the largest gift in Caltech's history.
