The 33,000-sf inter-modal terminal is a key component in the development of the Hudson River Ferry Service between New Jersey and Manhattan. It accommodates the anticipated growth of Weehawken ferry passenger commuter service and facilitates interconnections with the Hudson- Bergen light rail trolley, which links the growing cities of New Jersey`s Hudson River waterfront. The 21,000-sf first floor is devoted to passenger service functions, including: ticket counters, retail shops, a cafe, restrooms, a waiting room, and staging areas. The second floor, enclosing an area of 12,000 sf, contains an additional waiting room and operational office for New York Waterway. The facility operates 19 hours per day, seven days per week. This effort involved a public-private partnership, one of seven demonstra- tion projects authorized by the Federal Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) to receive federal funds for project development.
