The Benjamin Franklin Bridge, originally known as the Delaware River Bridge, is a suspension bridge that connects Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Camden, New Jersey. It spans the Delaware River and was opened to traffic on July 1, 1926. The bridge was designed by Paul Philippe Cret and Leon Moisseiff, and it was constructed by Ralph Modjeski. At the time of its completion, it held the title of the world's longest suspension bridge span, a record it maintained until 1929. The bridge carries Interstate 676, U.S. Route 30, pedestrians, cyclists, and the PATCO Speedline trains. It features a main span of 1,750 feet (533 meters) and a total length of 9,573 feet (2,917 meters).
The Benjamin Franklin Bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also an iconic landmark with its decorative lighting system, which can be customized for special occasions. It continues to serve as a crucial artery for commuters and travelers between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
