Liberty Towers is a residential complex in the Colgate Redevelopment area, a master-planned urban center located directly across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan. The structures` graceful and innovative design, which divides the housing program into two twin towers, maximizes views for all tenants while providing adjacent office properties access to light and scenic views. The unique shape of the towers provides all of its 648 units with prime views of such spectacular sites as the lower bay, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Manhattan. The juxtaposition of a gracefully curved glass wall on one facade and sawtooth-stepped masonry on the other facade results in an attractive and unusual massing for each tower. The twin towers rise to a height of 37 floors and include ground floor retail, seven levels of parking, and a health club and outdoor pool on the ninth floor deck. Residential units range from studios to two-bedrooms. The slender towers that sit above the large parking garage are visually integrated into one composition; the tower corners engage the base and extend to the ground. The garage is naturally ventilated with decorative grills, creating texture that responds harmoniously with the scale of adja- cent historic brownstone neighborhood buildings. The ground floor level of the towers is devoted to 24,000 sf of retail space and includes the lobby. For quick access to Manhattan, residents enjoy utilizing the adjacent New Jersey Transit light rail station. They also have the option of walking a short distance to the ferry or PATH trains.
