The College of Forestry at Oregon State University, designed by Michael Green Architecture (MGA), consists of two mass timber buildings: Peavy Hall and the A.A. “Red” Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory. Peavy Hall, connected to Richardson Hall, houses 20 classrooms, computer rooms, and laboratories. The design of Peavy Hall is inspired by the layers of a forest, evident in the Roseburg Forest Products Atrium with its towering Douglas fir columns. The Atrium connects to the Peavy Arboretum, a collection of local plant species. The buildings serve as a living laboratory, created in collaboration with multiple College departments. The wood structure of Peavy Hall innovatively addresses the site’s high seismic requirements.
