The New York Life Building, also known as 51 Madison, is the headquarters of the New York Life Insurance Company at 51 Madison Avenue, overlooking Madison Square Park in Manhattan. Designed by Cass Gilbert, it occupies a full city block bounded by Madison Avenue, Park Avenue South, and 26th and 27th Streets.
Completed in 1928 on the former site of Madison Square Garden, the 615-foot tower blends Gothic Revival detailing with Art Deco massing. Its forty stories are topped by a distinctive gilded pyramidal roof, making it a prominent feature of the city skyline. Expanded and renovated in the mid-20th century.
