The Queen Elizabeth, operated by Cunard Line, served as a WWII troopship from 1940 and began commercial voyages in 1946. Retired in December 1968, she was relocated to Florida and reopened as a tourist attraction in 1969, but it closed by August 1970 due to poor performance.

The ship was sold to Hong Kong businessman Tung Chao-yung, who planned to turn it into a floating university named Seawise University. In 1972, during refurbishment in Hong Kong, a mysterious fire broke out, and the ship capsized from the firefighting efforts.

This reflective steel rectangle represented the British ocean liner, called 'Queen Elizabeth I', that was to be a floating university. In 1972 in Hong Kong, however, it caught fire and sank. It is placed here because the owner of the space on 88 Pine Street also owned the 'Queen Elizabeth I.'
