Boeing 747 jumbo jet's first flight

1st commercial Boeing 747 flight, Pan American World Airways (Pan Am's) flies from New York City to London in 6½ hours. The flight had been planned for the evening of January 21, but engine overheating made the original aircraft unusable. Finding a substitute delayed the flight by more than six hours to the following day.
