Rockefeller Park contains most of Battery Park City’s wide lawns, as well as a large playground, plantings and gardens, several public art pieces, and a sheltered pavilion. This is the largest park in Battery Park City and has running and cycling paths, basketball courts, and a great lawn perfect for families, picnics, and frisbee players. There are also ping pong and pool tables. The Rockefeller Park House which lends books, balls, games, toys, and sports supplies.The park is named in honor of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller (1959 to 1973). He also served as Vice President (1974 to 1977). He signed the Battery Park City Authority Act in 1968, establishing Battery Park City. This park is one of the many public locations in New York City created by or dedicated to the members of the Rockefeller family, whose financial and political, and philanthropic legacy is found all over the city.
