Apse from San Martín at Fuentidueña at The Met Cloisters

Following an agreement with the Government of Spain, it was carefully dismantled stone by stone in Fuentidueña and reconstructed in New York.

Unlike many architectural objects permanently removed from their countries of origin, the Fuentidueña Apse remains formally an exchange loan from the Government of Spain, making the installation itself an important example of cultural cooperation between Spain and the United States.

The chapel also contains other important examples of medieval Spanish art, including a Romanesque crucifix and a monumental fresco.
