Gruzen Samton was retained to provide designs for the adaptive rehabilitation of the former Chase Bank office building built in the 1920's, which has been converted into approximately 400 residential condominium properties. The design also includes retail at the building`s base. The design objective was to create modern, efficient residential dwellings while retaining the historic grandeur of the existing structure. This project illustrates the potential rebirth of a historic building as a new, contemporary home for New Yorkers and the social realignment of the financial district into a vital, 24/7 community.
