Embedded in the sidewalk at Maiden Lane and Broadway, the Barthman sidewalk clock was installed in 1899 as a clever advertising tool for William Barthman Jewelers. Designed by employee Frank Homm, it was a rare timepiece set directly into the pavement, unlike the towering sidewalk clocks of the era.
Repaired, 1983
Repaired by Cartier was Barthman's Jewelers Clock.
Repaired, 2018
Though the original store is gone, the clock remains, having undergone multiple restorations to preserve its legacy. Once co-branded with Cartier, it continues to mark time and history on New York’s streets.
