Belapur Housing

Belapur Housing was an integral part of the New Bombay Development Plan. It is one of the first examples of incremental housing - housing that allows growth at a local level through a bottom up process, an idea that is ever relevant till today. The project uses one overriding principle: each individual unit is on its own an individual site to facilitate expansion. The units share common spaces but no two neighbouring units share any common walls. The houses are simple in structure and can easily be built or altered by local masons. It is a robust architecturally designed housing solution for lower and middle income housing.
