Spanish Benevolent Society (La Nacional)

A small group of Spaniards gathered in Manhattan to found La Nacional – Spanish Benevolent Society, a key institution in the history of the Spanish community in New York and in the development of Hispanic presence in the city. supporting newly arrived immigrants from Spain.

Their goal was clear: to create a space that would “promote, encourage and spread the spirit of fraternity and solidarity among Spanish and Hispanic-American residents of this country.”
