This extensive renovation and expansion to the 68-year-old Staten Island Zoo Reptile Wing effectively reinforced the facility`s global reputation as one of the most progressive herpetological centers. Situated at the center of the bucolic wooded zoological grounds, the reconstructed building serves as the new main entrance to the expanded reptile and amphibian exhibit area. The $5 million curvilinear building form utilizes patterned brickwork and metal roofing, creating a distinctive and harmonious focal point to the institution. The project was sponsored by the City of New York Department of Design and Construction and the Department of Cultural Affairs.
