Hammarskjold

Rosenthal named the sculpture after its original location: Hammarskjold Plaza. A year after its installation, it was acquired by the Fashion Institute of Technology, where it resides today. This work is one of four large public sculptures by Rosenthal that are still on view around Manhattan. The NYTimes quoted Rosenthal's agent, Joseph K. Levene, after the artist's death: "He never had a retrospective, but that's all right. He has one every day on the streets of New York."
