Chartered in 1988, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum illustrates the life of the people who lived in a former tenement building at 97 Orchard, home to an estimated 7000 people from over 20 nations between 1863-1935. It showcases the lives of the generations of immigrants who passed through there. It also illustrates the changing streetscape and neighborhood of the Lower East Side. The Museum also houses a theater.
