The Metropolitan Hotel, stood at Broadway and Prince Street on land formerly occupied by Niblo's Garden. With a 300-foot brownstone facade, it featured luxury accommodations including steam-heated rooms and lavish imported furnishings. Managed by the Leland brothers, pioneers of American hotel chains, it operated on the "American plan" (meals included).
Demolished, 1895
The Civil War era brought financial hardship to the hotel’s proprietors, and it eventually closed.

Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York,The 100th Anniversary Banquet was held on December 1, 1856 at the Metropolitan Hotel and received considerable attention in the press. Ladies, typically not included in the annual dinners, were seated on a mezzanine overlooking the main floor.
Simeon Leland, The plan included three meals a day, which were managed by the Leland brothers, organizers of the first American hotel chain.
