Description

Karl Bitter was one of 16 artists selected to create sculpture for the exterior of the Manhattan Appellate Courthouse. The figures consist of allegorical personifications such as Wisdom, Justice and figures in legal history, such as Moses, Confucius, and Justinian. Bitter's sculpture of Peace is one of these.

Audrey Munson,Coverage of Munson's career contained inaccuracies during her lifetime, and errors about the works for which she modeled have been perpetuated. Bitter completed his work on the Appellate Courthouse in June 1899, about the time Munson turned 8 years old.
