State Street

State Street is one of Boston’s oldest streets, located in the financial district. Originally established by Puritan settlers in 1630, it was first called Market Street and later renamed King Street. The Boston Massacre occurred there in 1770, in front of the Customs House. During the American Revolution, it became State Street to reflect the new republic. The street is home to landmarks like Long Wharf, the Old State House, and the Boston Custom House, and became a hub for banking and finance in the 19th century.
