Uprooted Dreams

The artwork is a site-specific sculptural installation created in collaboration with Austin’s Latino immigrant community. Artist Margarita Cabrera invited two artisans from Oaxaca, Mexico, to teach community members the carving and painting tradition of alebrije in a month-long workshop series. The wood was collected from a local park. The sculptures embody themes of uprootedness felt by the immigrant community.
