The Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center, was an innovative example of “Park Service Modern” architecture, designed by Ehrman Mitchell and Romaldo Giurgola as part of the National Park Service’s Mission 66 program. Its concrete, glass, metal, and wood design evokes the ideas of flight, lightness, and technological innovation, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide views toward the First Flight Boulder and historic flight line. The building houses exhibits on the Wright brothers, including a full-scale replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer and a reproduction of their 1902 glider. Widely recognized for its architectural importance, the Visitor Center was designated a National Historic Landmark and underwent a major rehabilitation between 2016 and 2018 to preserve its historic character and modernize its systems.
