There is a tendency to think that women have come into themselves perhaps since the advent of Ms. Magazine. Wrong. This tour is a celebration of the brilliant, creative, resourceful womenconnected to Lower Manhattan who have had an impact. In the 1600's Sarah Oort survived 4 husbands and was the richest woman in New York. The Schuyler sisters played a significant role in the Revolution. Not long after Elizabeth Jennings Graham was the first black woman to board a whites only streat car. Elizabeth Ann Seaton was the first American saint. Jenny Lind sung. Nellie Bly made her name as an investigative journalist and completed her trip around the world in 72days besting Phineas Fogg. We got the right to vote because of what Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony. Victoria Clafin Woodhull was the first woman on the stock exchange paving the way for Muriel Siebert who bought a seat. Audrey Munson was the first supermodel. Melanie Griffith was the iconic working girl who came to Manhattan to make her mark.
